Who we are

Our Work

HOW WE DO OUR WORK IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE WORK WE DO
Murray/Whitfield Visions of Hope System of Care (MWSOC) is an organizational framework, an approach, a way of ‘doing business’, driven by values and principles that enable our community to better meet the needs of children and their families. It is not a program, but a way to use teamwork to organize and support a coordinated array of community services and resources.

The MWSOC approach makes the process of working with individuals and families much smoother and more efficient. The primary vehicle for this process is the Child and Family Team. Any family can have a
Child and Family Team; however, MWSOC offers certain children and families with complex needs more intensive support and assistance through their Child and Family Team.

Murray/Whitfield System of Care Core Values:

The Beginning

A group of agencies who serve children and their families began meeting in the fall of 2007. The discussion centered on the issues concerning youth such as high dropout rates, high teenage pregnancy, high rates of child abuse and high rates of child neglect. The group worked on analyzing the statistics, mapping available resources, and decided to survey the kids. Youth ages 10 -14 were surveyed in the spring of 2008 with over 2,186 participating in the survey. The surveys revealed most kids go straight home after school, at this age kids still believe graduating from high school is important, and kids are not aware of all of their educational opportunities.
